Spanning approximately 268 kilometres, this circuit covers all the holy towns, kunds, forests and leela sthals where Lord Krishna performed his divine pastimes. Devotees undertake this yatra on foot or by vehicle over 7 to 14 days depending on pace and stops. Arrive in Mathura and proceed directly to Krishna Janmabhoomi — the most sacred site on the entire Braj 84 Kos circuit. This is the believed exact birthplace of Lord Krishna where the main Katra Keshav Dev shrine radiates with deeply devotional morning atmosphere filled with chanting and incense fragrance. Allow 60 to 90 minutes for reverent darshan and meditation at this most spiritually powerful site of all Braj.
After Krishna Janmabhoomi proceed to the iconic Dwarkadhish Temple — famous for beautifully painted ceilings and ornate Mughal-era stone architecture. Visit Gita Mandir where the complete Bhagavad Gita is inscribed on marble pillars — a unique temple experience. Also visit Birla Mandir for peaceful reflection. These temples establish the spiritual foundation for your entire 84 Kos Yatra journey.
In the evening experience the deeply moving Yamuna aarti at Vishram Ghat — one of the most spiritually powerful rituals in all of Mathura. As darkness falls the ghat comes alive with warm oil lamp light, conch shells, temple bells and devotional chanting. The collective energy of hundreds of devotees creates a profound spiritual moment. Return to hotel for dinner and overnight rest.
Drive to Gokul approximately 15 kilometres from Mathura across the Yamuna. Gokul is where infant Krishna was secretly brought by Vasudeva on the night of his birth. Visit Raman Reti — the sacred sandy ground where baby Krishna played — now a tranquil ashram complex. Visit Thakurani Ghat where Vasudeva crossed the flooded Yamuna with infant Krishna. Also see Nand Bhavan — the house where baby Krishna was raised by Nanda Maharaj and Yashoda Maiya, a temple with intimate devotional energy.
Drive to Mahavan — one of the most significant yet lesser-known sacred destinations on the circuit. Mahavan is where Lord Krishna performed his early pastimes and miracles as a young child. Visit Brahma Sthal and ancient leela sites within Mahavan. The village carries authentic Braj atmosphere with minimal commercial activity, offering a deeply serene pilgrimage experience away from the main circuit crowds.
Drive to Vrindavan and begin at legendary Banke Bihari Temple — one of the most spiritually charged temples in all of India. The unique swinging curtain darshan here creates profound spiritual moments. Note that cameras and phones are not permitted inside. After Banke Bihari visit the ancient Radha Raman Temple with its intimate serene atmosphere — a temple housing a self-manifested deity carrying deep spiritual authenticity.
Visit the mystical Nidhivan — the sacred forest believed to be the nightly site of Krishna's divine Raas Leela with the gopis. Local guides share extraordinary legends of this enchanted woodland. Visit the historic Govind Dev Ji Temple built in 1590 by Raja Man Singh of Amber — one of the oldest temples in Vrindavan. End the day at magnificent Prem Mandir and stay until after sunset to witness the spectacular coloured light illumination.
Experience the evening Yamuna aarti at Keshi Ghat — the second most important riverside ritual on the entire Braj circuit after Vishram Ghat in Mathura. The atmosphere of hundreds of devotees gathered on the ghat steps with oil lamps, bells and chanting creates a deeply moving spiritual experience. Return to hotel for dinner and overnight rest.
Visit the grand ISKCON Vrindavan temple for the morning or afternoon aarti — an energetic and devotionally rich experience with kirtan and beautiful deity darshan in a modern temple setting. Visit Seva Kunj if time permits — a sacred forest site within Vrindavan carrying legends of Krishna's divine play. Explore other remaining Vrindavan temples based on your interests and timing preferences.
After lunch drive to Govardhan approximately 25 kilometres from Mathura. Govardhan Hill is one of the most sacred sites in the entire Braj region — the hill Lord Krishna lifted on his little finger to protect the people of Braj from Indra's devastating storm. Check into your hotel in Govardhan and prepare for the auspicious Govardhan Parikrama. Many pilgrims choose to perform puja and offerings in the evening before the parikrama.
Today is dedicated to the sacred Govardhan Parikrama — the 21 kilometre circumambulation around the base of Govardhan Hill. This parikrama can be done on foot as per your comfort and capacity, or shorter partial parikramas are commonly done by stopping at key shrines. Visit Mansi Ganga — the sacred kund at the base of Govardhan Hill. The entire day is suffused with deep spiritual energy and the collective energy of thousands of pilgrims undertaking this auspicious circumambulation.
After completing the Govardhan Parikrama proceed to Radha Kund and Shyam Kund — considered among the most sacred water bodies in all of Braj Bhoomi. These kunds hold immense spiritual significance in the Krishna consciousness tradition. Take a ritual bath or at least drink water from these sacred kunds before returning to hotel for dinner and rest after a spiritually intense day.
Visit Kusum Sarovar — the beautifully restored stepped reservoir near Govardhan surrounded by ornate cenotaphs and considered one of the most picturesque and historically significant spots in the region. After Kusum Sarovar drive to Barsana approximately 20 kilometres away — the birthplace of Shri Radha Rani and the feminine spiritual heart of Braj Bhoomi.
Visit the famous Radha Rani Temple — also known as Ladli Lal Temple — sitting atop a prominent hill in Barsana. The climb involves steps but the darshan at the top and the breathtaking panoramic views of the Braj countryside are deeply rewarding. Also visit Maan Mandir — another important temple in Barsana connected to the divine exploits of Shri Radha Rani. The entire town carries the sweet energy of Radha consciousness.
Drive to Nandgaon approximately 30 kilometres from Barsana. Nandgaon is the village of Nanda Maharaj — Krishna's beloved foster father — one of the most important figures in Krishna's early life. Visit the hilltop Nand Bhavan temple complex where Nanda Maharaj lived. The temple carries a warm and personal devotional energy distinct from the larger temples of Mathura and Vrindavan. Visit Paan Sarovar — the sacred kund in Nandgaon.
From Nandgaon visit remaining 84 Kos circuit sites based on your itinerary. These may include Kamyavan forest site, Bhandirvan, Charanpahari (Krishna's footprint), and other ancient leela sthals on the complete 268 kilometre circuit. On the final day of your 84 Kos Braj Parikrama spend the morning in leisurely exploration of Mathura or Vrindavan local markets for Mathura peda, religious souvenirs, deity idols and prasad items to carry home. Your driver will then drop you comfortably at Mathura railway station, bus stand or any preferred location. If return is arranged to Delhi the journey begins from Mathura. This concludes your complete 84 Kos Braj Parikrama — the most sacred and comprehensive pilgrimage through every major destination connected to Lord Krishna's divine life across all of Braj Bhoomi.
Temple timings may change during festivals, special events and local crowd conditions. Banke Bihari Temple and other popular temples may have temporary route restrictions during rush days.
