Festival Itinerary

Holi Celebration Tour Plan

Day 1 – Morning

Arrival & Transfer to Mathura or Vrindavan

Your Mathura Vrindavan Holi Tour begins with a comfortable pickup from your Delhi hotel, railway station or any preferred location in the early morning. Drive to Mathura or Vrindavan, approximately 150 kilometres from Delhi, arriving well before the afternoon celebrations begin. Check in to your hotel or dharamshala and freshen up. Your driver will brief you on the day's schedule, entry points for Holi venues and crowd management tips based on local knowledge. Starting your Holi tour a day before the main Holi date is strongly recommended so that you can cover Vrindavan temple celebrations on Day 1 and Barsana and Nandgaon on Day 2 without any rush.

Day 1 – Afternoon

Vrindavan Temple Holi – Banke Bihari & ISKCON

Head to Vrindavan for the afternoon temple Holi celebrations. Begin at the legendary Banke Bihari Temple where the Holi celebrations are extraordinary — the priests shower gulal on the devotees and the entire temple courtyard fills with colour, chanting and joy in a way that is deeply moving and spiritually charged. The Holi at Banke Bihari typically begins several days before the main Holi date, so visit according to the festival calendar your guide provides. After Banke Bihari, visit ISKCON Vrindavan where the Holi celebrations combine energetic kirtan, beautiful deity darshan and a joyful international gathering of devotees from around the world participating in the colour festival.

Day 1 – Evening

Prem Mandir Evening Visit & Keshi Ghat

As the afternoon Holi celebrations wind down, head to Prem Mandir for the evening visit. The white marble temple complex is illuminated in thousands of coloured lights after sunset, and during the Holi season the decorations are especially festive and beautiful. Walk through the marble carvings depicting Krishna's leelas and enjoy the peaceful evening atmosphere of the temple gardens. Conclude the evening with a short visit to Keshi Ghat on the holy Yamuna river for the evening aarti — a serene and spiritually uplifting experience on the riverbanks that provides a calm and reflective end to an exciting first day of Holi celebrations in Vrindavan.

Day 2 – Morning

Barsana Lathmar Holi – The Most Famous Holi in the World

Wake up early and drive to Barsana, approximately 45 kilometres from Vrindavan, arriving well before the Lathmar Holi celebrations begin. Barsana Lathmar Holi is the most famous and unique Holi celebration in the world — rooted in the ancient legend of Krishna coming to Barsana to tease Radha and her friends, only to be playfully beaten with sticks by the women of Barsana. Today men from Nandgaon visit Barsana and the women of Barsana beat them with decorated sticks called lathis while traditional Braj folk songs called rasiya fill the air. The colour, music, crowds and joyful energy of Barsana Lathmar Holi is an experience that every visitor remembers for a lifetime. Your driver will guide you to the best viewing areas near the Radha Rani Temple hillside.

Day 2 – Afternoon

Nandgaon Holi – Krishna's Village Celebrations

After Barsana, drive to Nandgaon, approximately 8 kilometres away — the village of Nanda Baba where Lord Krishna spent his childhood. The Holi here is celebrated with equal joy and colour, with men from Barsana visiting Nandgaon the following day as part of the traditional reciprocal Lathmar Holi ritual. The atmosphere in Nandgaon during Holi is vibrant with gulal, folk music, processions and devotional singing around the Nandgaon temple. Even outside the specific Lathmar event dates, Nandgaon celebrates Holi with great enthusiasm and is a wonderful Braj Holi experience. After Nandgaon, if time allows, you can also make a brief stop at the Radha Kund or Govardhan area before heading back.

Day 2 – Evening

Return Journey with Memorable Braj Holi Experience

After completing the full Braj Holi circuit covering Vrindavan, Barsana and Nandgaon, your driver will comfortably drop you at your hotel, railway station, bus stand or any preferred location. The return journey from the Braj region to Delhi typically takes 3 to 4 hours depending on traffic conditions during the festival season. Your driver is familiar with the best routes to avoid post-Holi traffic congestion. We recommend carrying a change of clothes in your bag for the return journey. This concludes your Mathura Vrindavan Holi Tour Package — a truly once-in-a-lifetime festival experience in the land where Holi was born.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

The tour covers the major Braj Holi celebrations including Barsana Lathmar Holi, Nandgaon Holi, Vrindavan temple Holi at Banke Bihari and ISKCON, and the Phoolon Ki Holi flower festival. Additional stops at Prem Mandir, Keshi Ghat and Govardhan can be included based on the Holi calendar and your available days. We plan the route and timing based on the exact dates of each event in the festival season.

Barsana Lathmar Holi typically takes place 9 to 10 days before the main Holi date, usually falling in late February or early March depending on the Hindu calendar. Nandgaon Lathmar Holi takes place the following day. Vrindavan Holi begins even earlier and continues for several days through the main Holi date. We recommend confirming the exact dates with us each year and booking your tour accordingly to ensure you attend the right celebrations.

Hotel stay is available as an optional add-on to the Holi Tour Package. Since Holi is a peak festival season in Braj, hotels near temples in Mathura and Vrindavan book up quickly. We strongly recommend arranging accommodation well in advance — ideally 4 to 6 weeks before the festival. We can assist with hotel recommendations and bookings near the main Holi venues based on your group size and budget preference.

Yes, private cab, SUV, Innova Crysta and Tempo Traveller options are all available for Holi tours. During the festival season roads around Barsana, Nandgaon and Vrindavan can get very crowded and our drivers are experienced with the best entry and exit routes, parking spots and timing strategies to ensure a smooth and comfortable experience. Private vehicle is strongly recommended over public transport during Braj Holi.

Yes, we plan the Holi Tour with specific attention to the comfort and safety of families, couples and senior citizens. Our drivers are familiar with less crowded viewing areas, safe standing positions near Holi venues and the best times to visit each location to avoid peak crowd pressure. We recommend wearing old comfortable clothes, keeping bags securely closed and carrying a small towel. For senior citizens or those with mobility concerns, we can plan a more relaxed viewing-focused itinerary that covers the celebrations from comfortable distances.

Wear old clothes that you do not mind getting permanently coloured as the gulal used in Braj Holi is very vibrant. Comfortable closed footwear is recommended as temple floors and roads can be uneven. Carry a change of clothes in a sealed plastic bag inside your travel bag for the return journey. Apply oil to your hair and exposed skin before the Holi celebrations as it makes colour removal easier. Keep your mobile phone in a sealed ziplock pouch or use a waterproof case. Sunglasses are helpful to protect your eyes from dry colour powder during outdoor celebrations.

A same day Holi tour from Delhi to Barsana or Vrindavan is possible but requires a very early morning start of around 4:00 AM to 5:00 AM to reach Barsana in time for the Lathmar Holi celebrations. A 2-day overnight package is strongly recommended for a more relaxed and complete experience covering both Vrindavan temple Holi on Day 1 and Barsana and Nandgaon on Day 2. We offer both same day and overnight Holi tour options depending on your availability.

Yes, the Mathura Vrindavan Holi Tour Package is fully customizable. You can choose specific celebrations to attend, adjust the number of days, add a Govardhan or Mathura Vishram Ghat visit, or combine the Holi tour with a standard Braj Darshan for a more complete pilgrimage experience. Groups with special requirements such as wheelchair access, vegetarian meal stops or specific temple timings can share their needs while booking and we will plan the itinerary accordingly.
